Comparative effects of enarapril versus losartan on the prevention of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes patients with microalbuminuria

چکیده
A prospective randomized open-labeled study was performed to compare the renoprotective effects of enarapril and losartan on the development of microalbuminuria in type 2 diabetic patients with hypertension. Diabetic patients who have hypertension and microalbuminuria at base line (n=19) were recruited. Enarapril (n=11) or losartan (n=8) was randomly chosen by envelope methods and was prescribed for one year. At the end of this study, the blood pressure of patients in these two groups decreased significantly. Urine albumin-creatinine ratio (U-ACR) also decreased in these two groups, however, UACR of enarapril group was not significantly different from that of losartan group at any time of this study. Body mass index, HbA1c, blood pressure, and serum lipid profiles were not significantly different between the two groups. From these results, we conclude that the effects of enarapril and losartan on the development of microalbuminuria in type 2 diabetic patients along with hypertension seem to be equivalent in terms of clinical renoprotection.

Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is one of the most common chronic diseases in children, and nephropathy is a serious microvascular complication of T1D, which is associated with high mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of diabetic nephropathy and comorbidities in children with T1D. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 208 children (aged 1–18...

Background & Aims: Diabetes is the most common cause of renal insufficiency throughout the world. The main cause of renal failure in diabetic patients is microvascular endothelial injuries that is secondary to atherosclerosis and ischemia. The efficacy of renal Doppler indices such as resistive index (RI) and pulsetile index (PI) for the evaluation of intrarenal arteries has been shown. This st...

Microalbuminuria cannot be ignored by cardiologists because it is considered a predictor of coronary artery disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB-II) have been accepted nephroprotective agents in patients with type 2 diabetes with microalbuminuria since publication of the Irbesartan Patients with Diabetes and Microalbuminuria (IRMA-2) study. In patients...
